Story about an ISP
Nearly a year ago now, I worked at an ISP. The hours were shit and the management was less than stellar. Needless to say, I only worked there for a short period. However, while I was there I did hear/participate in a few funny stories.
My favorite story was the old man who called approximately once per week. He was a nice guy, very polite and understanding towards us (In contrast to a number of people who seem to think that phone support people are actively breaking their computers). This man’s problem was simple: he had trouble logging in to AdultFriendFinder.com.
We tried all sorts of remedies. Firefox didn’t fix the problem. Deleting cookies and history didn’t change a thing. Obviously, after over eight months, I can’t remember the exact steps we took to fix his problem, but we tried a number of things.
My favorite attempted fix was when I tried joining AdultFriendFinder in order to determine if there was a problem with the site. I also directed him to their technical support (can you believe that adult sites have tech support? I mean, it makes sense, but still, it’s…strange) in hopes that they may be able to solve his problem.
After talking to me, I never heard of him calling again. Either he gave up on AdultFriendFinder or he figured out what was wrong. I kinda hope he did figure it out. I have this image in my head of what his profile would be like, and, while I think describing that image might get me arrested, there’s still a horribly comedic feel to it.
